Deck Repair and Maintenance in Somers, MT
A deck does not usually fail all at once. A board goes soft, a railing gets loose, one corner starts to sag. We fix those before they turn into a rebuild.
What We Repair
Rotten, split or cupped decking boards, replaced in matching material or upgraded to composite.
Loose or wobbly railings, posts and stairs.
Sagging or springy framing, usually a joist or beam that has taken on water.
Rusted hardware, hangers and fasteners, which is what quietly fails first on an older wood deck.
Winter damage from snow load, ice and the freeze and thaw cycle.
Repair or Replace?
We will tell you straight. If the framing is sound and it is the surface that has gone, new decking over the existing structure is the cheap fix and it buys you years.
If the framing is rotting, the posts are moving, or the hardware is rusted through, patching it is throwing money at a deck that is going to keep failing. That is when a rebuild on aluminum framing makes more sense.
Upgrades While We Are There
Swapping wood decking for composite is the common one. No more sanding and staining every other summer, and it holds its color. We can also put a failing wood substructure onto aluminum framing so the bones stop being the problem.
How do I know if my deck is unsafe?
Spongy spots underfoot, railings that move when you lean on them, visible rot where posts meet the ground, or rust streaks at the hardware. Any of those is worth a look before someone leans on the wrong rail.
Can you repair a deck you did not build?
Yes. Most of our repair work is on decks someone else built.
Do I have to replace the whole deck?
Usually not. If the framing is sound we can redeck it and leave the structure alone.
What about the lakefront deck that connects to my dock?
We do both, so the deck, the stairs and the dock tie-in all get handled by the same crew.
When is the best time?
Spring and early summer, before the season gets going. Fall works too, once the dock comes out.
